Vintage Guitar Collecting Trivia
7th November 2008
See how years of exposure to light has faded the finish of a Les Paul Junior. The same thing has happened to older Les Paul Standards - where the red fades away and “cherry” sunburst becomes “ice tea” sunburst.

About your lighting …
About your lighting, you can also help by not using coolwhite or even worse daylight bulbs but use warmwhite. Choose the lamp with the lowest colour temp (less than 4000K.)
Great collection

I have a red Les Paul. I think it’d be sweet if in 30 years it faded into a tea color or a brown.

What a beautiful …
What a beautiful and unusual guitar shop you have; never have seen a collection like yours. My first guitar was a Harmony Sovereign which I had around 1970 - later had a Harmony Patrician - loved those guitars. Makes me sick to think of all the collectible guitars I have trashed over the years. Wonder how much my old Kay electric would be worth now! Thanks Steve!

Great video–very well done! The part about the lighting was especially interesting. I have a sun-faded Gretsch Synchromatic (back of the neck and headstock) someone must have left near a window but I never thought lighting could do that as well.
I just put in one of those new spiral fluorescent bulbs in the room where I keep my guitars–maybe I’d better change back to a conventional bulb.
Great video–a wealth of information!
