Vintage Bass Guitars

Are the tortoiseshell pickguards that are usually on the vintage basses actually made from tortoiseshells like the old Dunlop picks were?

On guitars made before about 1940 yes, they really made the pick guard from tortoise shell. This only applies to acoustic guitars though. I'm not aware of ANY guitar made after that where genuine tortoise shell is used. From about 1950 on they are all made from cellulose. It looks the same and costs about 1/10 as much to make.

This is a — S T E R E O — effects demo of my Maestro Rhythm ‘N’ Sound For Guitar effects pedal, circa 1969. Calling this a Pedal is an understatement.

I recorded this demo this evening on the 1974 Electra Les Paul Custom “Super Rock” guitar through a 1973 Peavey theClassic 50 watt tube amp. All sounds you hear are 1 guitar no other instruments or effects.

It has a crack down the center because of the type of bridge it has. What can I ask for it?

Once you restore an antique the price will greatly reduce. A real Collector will still pay you top dollar for it.

I'm looking for these guitars to collect however it seems there aren't many in Malaysia and most are either reissues or new ones. Do help me out. Thank you

This is quite a number of specialised shops selling music instruments in Malaysia. there is one shop in LG of Sunway Pyramid, one shop in Harvey Norman (next to the Pet Safari), and one another that i remember in Level 1 of Subang Parade. Surprise to hear you can't find what you want. For the vintage if they don't sell it at their premise, they can always source it for you. All you need to do is ask them to seek or order one for you. Of course you need to pay a little search fee for the service.

I have a Gold Kay Vintage SG electric guitar and i dont know the date of manufacture witch means i dont know the value… I really need to know. If anyone wants pics of it, email me and i will send them to you or if you can figure it out by pics.. thanks.
